Join VOCAL – Voice of Carers Across Lothian during carers’ week (7-13 June) and find out how you can make carers visible and valued in your workplace.

With three fantastic speakers lined up Vicky Zuiderent, Director of Vilo Sky will discuss gender equality in caring and the economic impact. You will also hear an inspirational personal story from Fiona MacFarlane about her caring journey spanning 40 years whilst also managing a very successful career!

Caroline Lamb, Chief Executive NHS Scotland and Scottish Government Director General Health and Social Care will highlight the benefits of becoming a Carer Positive accredited employer and discuss valuing carers in our communities.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES

Caroline Lamb

Caroline, trained as a Chartered Accountant in London. After qualifying she came to Scotland and worked first in housing and then in education. Caroline joined the NHS in 2004, as Director of Finance and Corporate Resources for NHS Education for Scotland, and was appointed as Chief Executive of NHS Education for Scotland in 2015. Caroline moved into Scottish Government in December 2019 to lead the Digital Health and Care Directorate. Advancing the use of digital technologies to support our health and care services, remains one of her key priorities.

As we moved into March 2020, and the reality of living with the Covid-19 pandemic, Caroline was asked to take on other roles; first of all leading on the ICU surge requirements; from May acting as Portfolio Director for Test and Protect; and then, from August, becoming Delivery Director for the Extended Seasonal Flu and Covid-19 vaccination programmes.

Fiona MacFarlane

Fiona MacFarlane BSc MBA CEng MIChemE MCIPR is the lead consultant at Morham Solutions, with a number of non-executive director and trustee roles across the charitable sector.

Fiona studied Chemical Engineering at Edinburgh University, returning there to complete an MBA. She became a chartered engineer at BP before a temporary move into public relations and communications completely changed her career path.

A Member of the Court of the Merchant Company and a Burgess of the City of Edinburgh, Fiona is also Chair of the charity, Waverley Care, and a Governor of Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools.

Vicky Zuiderent

Co-founder and director of Vilo Sky, a social enterprise dedicated to creating inclusive workplace cultures via coaching, training and consultancy services. Since forming in February 2018, Vilo Sky’s work has focused on helping parents and those with caring responsibilities to recognise how embedded structural gender bias and stereotypes limit options for men and women to successfully balance career and home.

Vicky is an ILM Level 7 qualified executive coach, mentor and workshop facilitator, currently studying for a MSc in Applied Gender Studies with the University of Strathclyde.

Her corporate career spanned 20 years in financial services as a senior leader in risk management and she has a deep, personal understanding of the barriers faced by under-represented groups and how to identify solutions for overcoming them.
